Daypacks are smaller than most backpacks, and designed for short day hikes, school, or "day" trips around around and about, are probably the most popular of all backpack categories. This is due to their versatility, and slightly lower cost than full-size backpacks. Most daypacks have ample pockets for a day's worth of clothing and paraphernalia, plus such additional features as water bottle and ipod holders. Hydration Backpacks Proper hydration, critical when engaging in many strenuous activities, is far easier with a hydration backpack, that feature 50-70 oz. reservoirs that hold enough water for moderate activities over for periods of from 1 to 4 hour, and backpacks with up to 100 oz. or more reservoirs, designed for multi-hour or all-day high-energy activities. Kids' Backpacks Designed to fit the size requirements, to promote proper orthopedic needs, and to be attractive and appealing, to active kids, Kids' Backpacks are designed specifically for short-torsoed children, and are usually 16" or under in length. Kids' Backpacks selections include not only "novelty' models, but include smaller versions of most other backpack styles, including hiking and hydration backpacks. Most, however, are not meant for heavy loads of books or other gear, but are instead ideal for clothing, lunches and small accessories. Suspension Backpacks are actually a type of daypacks that have additional support features that "suspend" the load, or shift it off the shoulders and onto the stronger lumbar area of the back. Thus Suspension Backpacks are perfect for carrying heavy loads of gear, including school books, for longer distances. Suspension features include simple waist belt and shoulder strap combinations, and complex internal frames and adjustable shoulder strap lengths. Travel Backpacks are perfect for short trips, such as overnighters & weekends trips, though some large Travel Backpacks can be used for longer trips, and many travelers favor them for any trip, rather suitcases. Most are shaped in the style of a soft-sided suitcase or carry-on, and many have wheels for easy rolling. These rolling packs are also sometimes called conversion packs because of their ability to quickly convert from rolling mode to backpack mode via hidden backpack straps. They are good for short day hikes, and bike rides, and walks about town. Conversely, Fanny Packs are smaller, and are primarily designed to carry wallets, money, keys and other small accessories. Wheeled Backpacks fall into 2 primary types - travel packs and book packs. Wheeled travel backpacks are ideal for any trip, When the terrain gets rough, they easily convert quickly from rolling luggage to backpack carry via hidden backpack straps.
